In post-war London, young writer Juliet Ashton is struggling to find the subject for her next book and has no wish to write about the horrors of the war. That changes when she receives a letter from a pig farmer on Guernsey and begins corresponding with island residents who lived through the German occupation. Their story, centered on a literary club that doubled as cover for forbidden gatherings, draws her to the island and changes her life.
