Since 2014, in France, restorative justice has offered victims and offenders the chance to meet in secure, supervised dialogue sessions with professionals and volunteers. People convicted of crimes such as theft with violence, and victims of home jacking, robbery, purse snatching, and incestuous rape, take part in these encounters. As they confront anger, silence, fear, and distrust, each side struggles to speak and listen. Along the way, understanding, hope, and sometimes a measure of repair emerge.
