In 1815, the young captain Edmond Dantès is falsely denounced and unjustly imprisoned in the Castle of If on the day of his wedding. After years in captivity, he befriends Abbé Faria, who tells him of a hidden treasure. When Dantès escapes and comes into the fortune, he returns as the mysterious Count of Monte Cristo to exact a carefully planned revenge on the men who destroyed his life.
