After a brutal assault leaves Mark Hogancamp with severe brain damage and little memory of his former life, he creates a miniature World War II village called Marwen in his yard as a way to heal. The fantasy world helps him process trauma by populating it with dolls based on people from his past. But when Mark is forced to testify against the men who attacked him, his invented refuge is put to the test.
