The life of Michael Hartung, the owner of a failing video rental shop, changes when an ambitious journalist presents the results of an investigation: years earlier, while working for the railway, the Reichsbahn, Michael allegedly organized the largest mass escape from the GDR. Tempted by a generous fee, Michael confirms the story, even though only part of it is true. He unexpectedly becomes a national hero, but the brighter his fame shines, the higher the price of being exposed becomes.
