Jeff Bauman is a well-intentioned but underachieving Boston native who works at the deli counter of a Costco and lives in a small apartment with his alcoholic mother. He tries to win back his ex-girlfriend Erin, but when he arrives at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, a bomb explodes near him, and both of his legs are amputated above the knee. After regaining consciousness, Jeff helps the FBI identify the bomber, and he is later hailed as a hero.
