Aging actress Irina Arkadina pays summer visits to her brother Pjotr Sorin and her son Konstantin Treplyov on a country estate. On one occasion, she brings Boris Trigorin, a successful novelist, with her. Nina Zarechnaya, a free and innocent girl from a neighboring estate, falls in love with Boris.
