A strong-willed young woman, frustrated by on-going injustice at home, leaves the U.S. after meeting Jude, an American doctor who runs a remote medical mission within the Ottoman Empire. There, on the brink of World War I, she finds her loyalty to Jude and the mission's founder tested when she falls in love with a lieutenant in the Ottoman Imperial Army. As invading forces close in, she must decide whether to live as others expect or to be true to herself.
