After losing her job at a hotel, Allie Evans is unexpectedly hired as a governess in the European country of Winshire. Once there, she discovers that her employer is King Maximillian and that she is to care for his daughter Theodora, who has become difficult toward those around her since the death of her mother. As Allie gradually bonds with the girl and gets to know the people at the royal palace, including Chancellor Riggs, she learns that King Maximillian is engaged to Countess Celia.
