In suburban Connecticut, upper-class high schooler Amanda euthanizes her crippled horse with a knife, resulting in animal cruelty charges. Some time later, she reconnects with Lily, a more popular and academically inclined former friend whose father has died. What begins as a casual tutoring session and a guarded attempt to rekindle their friendship gradually reveals that both girls are capable of far darker behavior than they first appear to be.
