In the near future, technology is woven into everyday life, but Grey still prefers hands-on work restoring old cars. On the way back from a client's home, he and his wife are attacked after a car crash; she is killed and Grey is left paralyzed below the neck. A wealthy client offers him an experimental Stem implant that can restore his mobility, and after hesitation Grey agrees to the surgery.
