Ten-year-old Flora is devastated by her parents' separation, but tries to hide her feelings behind cynicism and a firm belief that miracles and superheroes are just fiction. Everything changes when she rescues a squirrel and names him Ulysses: soon she discovers that he has extraordinary powers, including the ability to fly and write poetry. Flora's delight turns to worry when Ulysses is put in danger and a determined animal control agent sets out to catch the remarkable little creature.
