In 1983, Scottish teenager John dreams of playing football, but the sudden onset of tics makes him a target for school bullying. After a breakdown, he is diagnosed with Tourette syndrome. A documentary about John's condition later brings him recognition, but it also forever changes his family life and strains his relationship with his mother.
